What is astrobiology?

Astrobiology is a multidisciplinary field comprising nearly every discipline within the natural sciences. The Venn Diagram to the right shows some of the closest disciplines to the majority of research being conducted in astrobiology. Part of what makes astrobiology difficult is the diversity of questions that need answering, which in turn require expertise and perspectives from multiple disciplines. In order to be an effective astrobiologist, one must also be an effective chemist, biologist, geoscientist, astronomer, and physicist.
